Only promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs the previous season, George Burley’s Ipswich Town side proved to be the shock revelations of the 2000-01 season. An attacking and fluid team featuring solid professionals like Matt Holland, Richard Wright, Herman Hreidarsson, Jim Magilton and James Scowcroft was elevated further by the remarkable goal scoring form of Marcus Stewart who hit 19 in the League and 21 in all competitions. For much of the season Town stayed in and around the top three before eventually finishing in fifth place to earn European competition entry for the first time in nearly two decades.
